Manor Home for the Aged is a municipal, Long-Term Care facility. The Manor is operated under the auspices of the Homes for the Aged and Rest Homes Act. It is located on 8.56 acres of land at the corner of Raglan and Erie Streets in the Town of Collingwood, County of Simcoe.

Sunset Manor provides accommodation, support services and nursing and personal care service for 148 permanent residents and 2 short-stay residents.

Sunset Manor was first established in 1968 by County of Simcoe By-Law 2989. The 148 bed "residential" facility opened on September 15, 1969. In 1972, with the enactment of the new Extended Care Act, 72 of the beds were designated "extended care". A "special care" wing was created to meet the needs of up to 32 cognitively impaired residents. These changes resulted in the capacity of the home increasing to 152, plus 5 "infirmary" beds. In 1985 an additional 13 residential beds were converted to "extended care".

In 1988, an agreement between the Town of Collingwood and the County of Simcoe resulted in the exchange of an equal amount of land to facilitate the construction of a 45 unit non-profit housing project on Erie Street.

In 1993, as part of the provincial long-term care reform initiative, as detailed in Bill 101 An Act Respecting Long-Term Care, Sunset Manor was designated a long-term care facility. As such all of the accommodation was formally designated "long-term care facility beds".

In that same year, the approval to operate two of the beds was transferred to Georgian Manor and in 1994, two beds where officially designated "Short-Stay" or respite care.

By 1995, all of the spaces used for the "infirmary" beds were converted to other uses as "infirmary beds" were no longer required.

A major redevelopment project for Sunset Manor received final approval in early 1995. Construction of the three phased project commenced in April, 1995 and completed in June, 1997. The official rededication of the New Sunset Manor was conducted on June 21, 1997. The redevelopment resulted in the entire facility being brought up to current long-term care standards, with significantly enhanced resident, staff and community "outreach" services. The facility is a two storey structure consisting of approximately 136,000 sqare feet. Residents accommodation is decentralized into five resident care units, called houses, consisting of one 24 bed memory care unit called West Simcoe, one 24 bed unit called South Simcoe, two 35 bed units called Georgian One and Georgian Two and one 32 bed unit called Collingwood Two. Sixty percent of resident rooms are private with an ensuite washroom and forty percent are semi-private (2 bedrooms) with an ensuite washroom. Each house has its own dining/servery, activation area, lounge, and staff support space. The facility has two elevators and an emergency power generator. The core areas provide staff support space including, beauty salon/barber and podiatry service space, main kitchen, laundry services, management and administration offices, meeting rooms, staff library, staff lounge and locker rooms, and the power plant. Communal space for residents and public include; visitors dining room, living room with fire place, library, therapy room, tuck shop, auditorium, worship centre and community outreach space.

In 1997 arrangements were made to accommodate the Victorian Order of Nurses Day Away Program and the Red Cross Community Health Services Program in community outreach space. In 1998, Hospice Georgian Triangle also joined the community.

The Manor presently provides Meals-on-Wheels, Short-Stay, and Podiatry Services to individuals in the local community, "co-op" and clinical training experiences for students, community meeting space and support services to Sunset Village.

The Manor is responsible to a Committee of Management called the Seniors' Services Committee. The Committee is composed of members appointed from among the elected representatives of Simcoe County Council along with one appointed representative from each of the Cities of Barrie and Orillia.

The programs and services of the Manor are regulated by the Residential Services Branch of the Ontario Ministry of Health. The Manor is "accredited" by Accreditation Canada and is a full member of the Ontario Association of Non-Profit Homes and Services for Seniors.
