When in Outbreak

For further information and updates regarding outbreaks at your Home, please contact the Home directly.

When in Outbreak, Homes will adhere to the following Infection Prevention and Control practices:

  • Visitors:
    • We ask that general visitors postpone their visits to the affected Resident Home Area (RHA) while in outbreak.
    • Essential caregivers may visit and adhere to PPE requirements when entering the RHA(s) and existing rooms of those in isolation.
    • If possible, visit only one resident and leave the Home immediately after the visit; if multiple residents are in the home but in different locations, it is recommended that the healthy resident(s) (non-outbreak case) be visited first
  • Masking:
    • Residents on the affect RHA(s) are encouraged to wear a mask when in the common areas.
    • Staff on the affected RHA(s) will wear a surgical mask at all times.  Staff going into residents rooms of those in isolation with enhanced droplet contact precautions will be required to wear full PPE (gowns, gloves, fit-tested N95 and eye protection).
  • Residents on the affected RHA(s)  will be assessed twice daily for signs and symptoms and placed on enhanced droplet contact precautions immediately if symptoms develop.
  • Tray service will be initiated for those residents under enhanced droplet contact precautions.
  • Group programming will be paused on the affected RHA(s) and one-on-one programming will be initiated.  Residents will be cohorted to the RHA(s) and group activities or outings with other areas will be paused.
  • Cleaning and Audits:
    • The Home will continue enhanced cleaning of commons areas.
    • The Home will increase audits on the RHA(s).
    • Staff and visitors to practice good hand hygiene, donning and doffing of PPE, and physical distancing.
