As of 2026, the recycling collection landscape in Ontario and Simcoe County is changing.

The County of Simcoe’s waste collection services are primarily intended for residential units. However, this service is extended to commercial properties (not units) and serviced proportional to that of a single-family home. As such, these properties are limited to:

  • 1 x 360 L recycling cart collected bi-weekly
    • Occasional overflow is permitted
    • See more info on how to prepare recycling
  • 1 x 240 L garbage cart collected bi-weekly
    • Occasional overflow is permitted
    • Bags must be tagged
    • Max 5 tagged bags of garbage
    • See more info on how to prepare garbage
  • 1 x 120 L organics cart collected weekly

One additional recycling cart and/or organics cart may be ordered per property, provision is subject to County discretion and a $50 per cart administration fee will apply.  Commercial locations must reasonably participate in the recycling and organics programs in order for their garbage to be collected.

Commercial properties that produce frequent overflow materials, fail to remain within the limits above, or fail to properly prepare material may result in suspended collection services where alternative disposal may be required through private collection or delivery of materials to a Waste Drop-off facility at the owner’s expense (tipping fees may apply). For more information or to check eligibility, please contact Service Simcoe at info@simcoe.ca or 1-800-263-3199.
