A temporary, seasonal closure of the Swift Rapids Road, to public vehicular traffic, is planned for March 15* – May 31, 2020. The closure is being implemented to minimize damage to the road and environmental impacts during the spring thaw period. Non-motorized activities are still permitted on the County Forest during this period.
The temporary closure will also help to address concerns about the levels of unauthorized activity occurring on County and Provincial lands, including illegal dumping and damage to potentially sensitive habitat.
The Swift Rapids Road is a utility road, used by a number of organizations to access and maintain the power station and dam on the Severn River and associated hydro corridor. It is maintained on behalf of the authorized users by the Orillia Power Generation Corporation. The road not assumed or maintained by the Township of Severn.
* Road will remain open until closure of the OFSC snowmobile trail
