About Simcoe Village

About Simcoe Village

Simcoe Village is a thirty-two (32) unit apartment building situated in Beeton, Ontario on the same grounds as Simcoe Manor, Home for the Aged. Simcoe Village has been built to provide accommodation and support services for those people who are having difficulty living in their current place of residence but who do not need the full services of a Home for the Aged. Potential clients will be those who require supervision or assistance with the tasks of daily living due to decreased physical and/or mental capabilities. Support services will be provided on an as-needed basis to enhance the ability of those in the apartments to age-in-place while maintaining independent lifestyles.

Involvement of Families and Friends

The Province of Ontario is committed to keeping people in their own homes as long as possible by increasing the number of caregivers available for in-home care. This philosophy will be carried on in Simcoe Village with in-home services being arranged for on an as-needed basis similar to what might be provided in your current residence. The success of the Village program depends, in part, upon continuing support from your family and friends. The administration looks forward to meeting with them and having them play an important role in your life here at Simcoe Village.

The Good Neighbour Concept

The Simcoe Village administration wishes that every client coming into the Village will help to create a sense of community by showing an interest in the well-being of their fellow apartment dwellers. With assistance from each other, the support staff and the administration can help provide a pleasant and safe place in which to live.

Monthly Rate

Simcoe Village has twenty-nine one-bedroom apartments and three two-bedroom apartments. Everyone who is admitted into the apartments must pay rent and a preset service charge on a monthly basis. Monthly rates will be reviewed annually. Subsidies are available based on personal income.

Preset services include a service coordinator responsible for

  • monitoring the well-being of each client
  • consulting with the client to arrange support services as deemed necessary
  • coordinating activities including shopping and banking
  • emergency response system in each apartment
  • three hot evening meals each week served in the dining room of the Village
  • one annual cleaning of your apartment
  • on-site tub room and walk-in shower; each apartment has a bathtub equipped with handrails
  • on-site coin-operated laundry facilities
  • organized social programs and local transportation; access to a beauty salon/barber, chapel & entertainment
  • mail delivery

Support Services

One important feature of our new housing venture is the method by which you will receive services. It is the coordinator’s responsibility to monitor your care needs and, with your approval, to make the appropriate arrangements for a homemaker to be scheduled into your apartment as required. The homemaker’s tasks can include personal care, light housekeeping, assisted meal preparation, laundry, medication supervision and shopping assistance.

It is important to note that twenty-four (24) hour care is not available nor are homemakers available to drop in at any time. They will be scheduled throughout the building during their shift and are not on-call except in emergency situations.

Currently, we have homemakers in the Village every morning and at times in the evenings but not overnight. However, homemaker scheduling change as demand dictates.

Admission Criteria

Simcoe Village has been designed and funded as an alternative to a long term care facility. Clients considered for admission will be those requiring supervision and/or assistance with activities of daily living due to decreased physical and/or mental capabilities. The provision of the appropriate support services on an as-needed basis should enhance the ability of these clients to age-in-place while maintaining independent lifestyles. The following specific criteria will apply:

  • Clients must be able to manage/direct their own care.
  • Clients must be ambulatory and/or independently mobile and able to transfer by themselves.
  • Clients must be independent with bowel and bladder care.
  • Clients must be able to feed themselves and to participate in activities of daily living.
  • Clients must be able to have their needs met by visiting professionals.
