Note: Please note that for those who joined our virtual session this evening on the new automated carts program, we experienced technical challenges with the live stream and will be posting a recording on carts.simcoe.ca by end of day July 22. We will also promote on our social media channels once the video can be reviewed. We apologize for the delay and will be sure to share the helpful presentation with you shortly. Thank you.
On July 21, 2021 from 6-7 p.m. the County is hosting a virtual Public Information Centre (PIC) for residents to learn more about the County's new automated cart collection which begins on November 1, 2021. An FAQ page has already been created to answer many of the questions that our residents might have. The PIC is designed to provide additional information about the program and instructions on how to use the carts.
The session will be live; however, only those questions that were submitted in advance will be addressed during the virtual presentation. Our survey to submit questions is now closed. Please note that in the interest of time, questions received have been grouped and will be addressed simultaneously within key themes.

About our Automated Cart Collection
As of November 1, 2021, the County is moving to a new automated cart collection for curbside waste. Carts are used across North America because they are easier, safer and provide better overall service to residents. In addition, residents will benefit from more space for waste, a reduced footprint for storage of the equivalent volume, a safer and more predictable service, as well as key environmental benefits. More information on the roll-out of our new program is available at carts.simcoe.ca.
Residents will begin to receive their three new carts starting in August, ready for the roll-out of the new system on November 1, 2021. There are many advantages to this proven and preferred method of curbside waste collection, including:
- Increased vertical storage space
- Consolidate a variety of smaller bins, bags and containers into three carts
- Good for the environment with more room for organics
- Lids on all carts protect against windblown litter and impacts from critters
- Cut down on lifting and trips to the curb! With wheels and ergonomic handles, just roll out two carts each week
- Safer for everyone with touchless automated collection
- Ensure continuity of collection service and help to reduce potential for wide-spread collection impacts previously experienced
