Regional Government Review

Live streaming starts at 10:55 a.m. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_fEy1I5ks0

The Province is reviewing eight regional governments (Durham, Halton, Muskoka District, Niagara, Oxford County, Peel, Waterloo, York), Simcoe County and their lower-tier municipalities. In total, 82 municipalities are included in the review.

The objective of this review is to ensure that these municipalities are providing the vital services that residents and local businesses depend on.
The goal is that these municipalities are:

  • working well and supporting the future economic prosperity of residents and businesses
  • working harder, smarter and more efficiently

Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark has appointed Ken Seiling and Michael Fenn as special advisors to assist with this review.
To help inform the special advisors' recommendations to Minister Clark, we are seeking your feedback.

Public Consultation:

Residents are invited to share your thoughts on the municipalities where you live, work or spend time. The Province wants to hear your views on the way your elected municipal representatives make their decisions and represent your community. They also want your thoughts and observations on the efficiency, effectiveness and cost of the various municipal services that your municipalities provide.
In particular, they are looking for your feedback on:

  • regional governance
  • decision-making
  • service delivery

They will report back on what they heard during this consultation in fall 2019.
