The County of Simcoe, in partnership with the Towns of Midland and Penetanguishene, completed a Schedule “B” Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) in 2018 for the County Road 93 Complete Streets project. As an alternative to the existing signalized intersection, a roundabout option was considered and subsequently determined to be the preferred solution.

About the project
The value of construction for the County Road 93 roundabout was $7.8 million, with the roundabout opened in October 2021. Similar to a signalized intersection, traffic is required to slow down in advance of the roundabout, with the speed limits reduced to 50 km/h from all four directions approaching the roundabout to ensure vehicles are approaching at a safe speed. The roundabout was designed with two lanes of capacity to ensure it can handle the current and projected future traffic in the area.
