Barrie Collingwood Railway (BCRY) Active Transportation Trail

​The County has the opportunity to convert a 23 km stretch of the former BCRY into an active transportation trail. This section of the proposed tr​ail runs from Stayner (Township of Clearview) to Angus (Township of Essa). The County of Simcoe is undertaking an engagement questionnaire to study the development of the BCRY Active Transportation Trail.

The BCRY Active Transportation Trail will:   

  • Help build a healthier and stronger County
  • Connect the communities of Collingwood, Stayner, New Lowell, and Angus
  • Promote walking and cycling for recreation and the enjoyment of nature
  • Support healthy living, economic development, and tourism opportunities

Key Dates

  • ​Public Information Centre #2 and Comment Period - Complete and Feedback is being reviewed/considered
  • Design - Winter 2022 - Summer 2023
  • Anticipated Construction Start - 2023

Study Process

Phase 1:Identify Active Transportation Corridor Needs and Opportunities

Phase 2: Assess Alternative Solutions

  • Consult review agencies, Indigenous communities, stakeholders, and the public
  • Inventory the environment (natural, social, and economic)
  • Evaluate alternative solutions and identify recommended solution
