What provincial approvals are required for operation of these facilities?

Both the OPF and MMF are regulated under the Environmental Protection Act and will require an Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA) issued by the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC). An ECA is overseen and enforced by the province and will cover waste operations, air and noise, and surface water and groundwater monitoring and control at the facility. It will govern how the facility will be operated and monitored with respect to preventing offsite impacts. The approvals process will require submission of environmental and technical reports and assurances that public, Aboriginal, and stakeholder consultation has been undertaken.
