Behavioural Support Transition Unit

As many of you know, at Georgian Manor we have been working to open our Behavioural Support Transition Unit (BSTU) this year. I am pleased to say that this unit is now able to accept patients, with the first one having moved in to the unit earlier today. This is a fantastic addition to our offerings at the Georgian Village Campus of Care in Penetanguishene, adding to the specialized support we already offer with Respite and Convalescent Care Support and Long-Term Care services.

About the BSTU - Red Oak
The BSTU is a regional program to support specialized needs across a broader catchment area. This unit will provide support to those who need it the most, with specialized beds giving individuals the care, planning, and treatment that they require in order to return to their place of residence in the community or to the long-term care setting.

As the regional provider of specialized Behavioural Support Services to all 26 long-term care homes in the North Simcoe Muskoka catchment area since 2012, and as a member of the Specialized Geriatric Services program led by Waypoint Centre for Mental Health, the County has been engaged in ongoing planning discussions for over a decade to bring a BSTU to the region.

This new unit will strengthen partnerships among community and healthcare providers across the health and wellness continuum. This enhanced collaboration will ensure providers deliver valuable resources to individuals and work to create the building blocks for successful transitions to the next level of care that may be required. The beds are accessible to all residents of the Province of Ontario.

Long-Term Care Services
In addition to the Red Oak Resident Home Area (BSTU), the County has also been approved by the Province to add an additional 16 long-term care beds at Georgian Manor to maintain capacity for those needing regular long-term care services.

French Language Services at Georgian Manor

Services en français au Georgian Manor

Did you know that approximately 20% of residents and 10% of staff at Georgian Manor are French speaking? (2021)

Georgian Manor is an “Identified health-service provider" for French language services (FLS) and is committed to the improvement and delivery of FLS to its clientele in accordance with existing capacity.

In 2018, Georgian Manor was awarded a grant to improve its offer of services available in French to the francophone community. Recent successes include the installment of bilingual signage, translations of pertinent documents, enhanced French program, and identification of bilingual staff.

Georgian Manor's official language of work is English. However, staff members and volunteers are encouraged to use the official language where appropriate, including with francophone residents to meet their needs.  Bilingualism (French/English) is considered an asset when applying to work at Georgian Manor.

For more information on current services available in French, please contact Christina Thorpe, Program and Support Services Supervisor at (705) 549-3166 Ext. 3080 or christina.thorpe@simcoe.ca
