Georgian Village and Manor
Check out our “Volunteer Feature Board" near the front Admin office. On this board we randomly select a volunteer to be featured which includes a background on their volunteer experience at Georgian Manor.
We are working diligently with both our community partners as well as the Museum to discuss ways to streamline the Volunteer program in order to provide effective service to our current and prospect volunteers. Further to this, new Volunteer referral cards are being added to the program. Any new volunteer referred to by a current volunteer includes them into monthly giveaways.

New* Resident Birthday Donation Program
We began a new birthday program at each of our long-term care homes where groups of volunteers and/or companies purchase individual cupcakes, make or purchase birthday cards and provide a birthday balloon so each resident is able to celebrate their birthdays on their actual birth dates.
New* Virtual Volunteering
Virtual volunteering is done online, via computers, tablets, or smartphones, off-site from the Long Term Care Homes. More and more, organizations are engaging people who want to contribute their skills and time via the Internet.
What are the benefits of virtual volunteering?
Virtual volunteering is flexible, often allowing the volunteer to complete a task or project around their own schedule. It is also not limited by geography, physical ability or work arrangement. You can choose to volunteer for any of the Long Term Care homes through Simcoe County and or link our residents to other places and people around the world!
What is the time commitment?
Virtual volunteers can complete one-time, short-term or ongoing tasks and projects. But it would be very much appreciated if our volunteers committed some sort of time to our residents on a regular basis as they so need company from outside our home.
Below are some different ways you can virtually volunteer…
- Read short stories (Chicken Soup for the Soul)
- Visit virtually with a resident 15min-half hour (I can give topics to chat about and or link you up with a resident with similar interests)
- Allow residents to bake or cook with you virtually, get them engaged
- Share a musical instrument talent with our residents
- Share biblical scripture with our residents
- Sing with our residents (sing a long)
- Get your kids and or grandkids involved and share a play or a dance routine they learned
- Call virtual Bingo for small group of residents
- Do a craft virtually with a resident (let me know what supplies you may need)
- Share some of your pets virtually
- Link our residents to other special people around the world on a Zoom call to visit other destinations and people virtually

Mind & Melody
As you know we have been implementing a program called Music & Memory on all home areas, where residents are set up with personalized playlists that are loaded on to an iPod for them to enjoy. We have seen great success in this program and appreciate how well the multidisciplinary team works together to allow residents to enjoy their favourite music. We are excited to announce the rebranding of the program to “Mind & Melody" as we are no longer using the Music and Memory brand. Please note that the goals of the program remain the same.

Do you have a student going in high school looking to complete their 40 hours of service? Georgian Village offers opportunities for students in the evenings and on weekends to complete their 40 hours of service. Youth volunteers can volunteer in friendly visiting, large or small group programs, creative programming and games. There is something for everyone!
Our Volunteer Dedication
Volunteer, Mary, lends a hand as Georgian Village hosts a Coffee Break raising more than $225 for the Alzheimer Society.
A special thank you to our community groups for sponsoring our monthly birthday parties, we appreciate all the hard work that goes into preparing and attending the party. Volunteer Loreeze is pictured cutting the cake for one of the birthday parties.
Two Georgian Manor Volunteers, Anita and Mary, were nominated for Ontario Volunteer Service Awards. Mary was recognized for her 15 years of service and Anita was recognized for her 25 years of service. This award recognizes volunteers for providing committed and dedicated service to an organization.
Delta Bingo Gaming Centre
Members of the Georgian Manor Volunteer Auxiliary Committee have the privilege of volunteering for the Delta Bingo Gaming Centre. For many years Penetanguishene Boardwalk has played a huge part in fundraising for this committee twice monthly. The proceeds raised go towards helping to enhance programs that allow residents to remain active socially and recreationally within Georgian Manor and the community.
