Midhurst/March 7, 2017 – Economic development partners from across Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka are calling on local businesses, organizations and entrepreneurs from the skilled trades to participate as exhibitors in the 2017 Simcoe Muskoka Skilled Trades Expo, being held Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the Elmvale Community Arena.
"Having received tremendous feedback from participants as well as national and provincial awards for the 2016 Expo, we look forward to growing the event and opening it up to even more residents," said Warden Gerry Marshall. "This is a unique and beneficial opportunity for our businesses to connect with the current and future labour market and help promote the skilled trades."
This year's Expo will feature two sessions: a student/school session from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and a session geared for the general public from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The early session will provide students with the opportunity to participate in hands-on demonstrations and interactive displays relating to dozens of skilled trades available in Simcoe County and Muskoka; while the evening session is open to the public and will provide residents of all ages with an opportunity to learn more about area businesses and career opportunities in the skilled trades.

The Simcoe Muskoka Skilled Trades Expo is co-ordinated through a partnership between the County of Simcoe, Simcoe County District School Board, Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, Simcoe Muskoka Workforce Development Board, City of Orillia, City of Barrie, Springwater Township, and the Flos Agricultural Society.
The 2016 Expo was attended by approximately 1,600 Grade 7 and 8 students from around Simcoe County who were introduced to more than 30 skilled trades. The successful event received national and provincial awards from both the Economic Developers Association of Canada and the Economic Developers Council of Ontario.
