Georgian Residences COVID-19 Outbreak Declared Over

August 4, 2020

Following extensive rapid COVID-19 testing at Georgian Residences Retirement Home, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) has confirmed that there are NO other positive cases among staff or residents.

Unfortunately, we are sad to report that the County has been informed that the 90-year-old resident who tested positive for COVID-19 has passed away. We extend our condolences to the resident's family and friends.

The health and well-being of our residents and staff remain our priority. Our highly trained staff are committed to tackling this difficult situation and we appreciate the messages of support and encouragement from families during this challenging period. We know that the outbreak protocols were difficult for residents and families, however, these additional precautions were imperative to limit the potential spread of the coronavirus and keep residents safe. The outbreak at Georgian Residences has now been declared over and the COVID protocols have been lifted.

From the outset of the pandemic, the County followed extensive health protocols to minimize the risk to our residents and staff. To date, the County of Simcoe's four long term care and seniors services facilities, which provide care to 1,300 seniors, have limited the impact of COVID-19 in our facilities, and we will continue to rely on the most up-to-date public health guidance to safeguard our residents and staff.

We will keep residents, families and staff updated as we continue to do everything we can to keep everyone safe.
