County of Simcoe recognizes National Nursing Week and our valued caregivers

May 11 to 17, 2020

Midhurst/May 8, 2020 – Nurses, Personal Support Workers (PSWs) and all caregivers are playing a vital role in supporting and caring for our most vulnerable residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. In honour of their compassion, dedication, and courage, the County recognizes the week of May 11 to 17, 2020 as Nursing Week, as we join municipalities and citizens across the Country in showing our gratitude to our amazing caregivers.

Healthcare professionals and front-line workers continue to set aside fear and apprehension, don their personal protective equipment and step forward to play a critical role in the response to COVID-19. These are demanding and important roles during regular times, and now more than ever, our caregivers require our support and appreciation.

“Our front-line workers in long-term care and seniors services, and across our health-care system, have a tremendous impact on the well-being of our communities on a daily basis and have stepped up to ensure our residents remain as safe and healthy as possible during these uncertain times," said Warden George Cornell. “We ask that you take a moment to recognize nurses, PSWs and caregivers for their continued passion and dedication. On behalf of County Council and the entire County of Simcoe, thank you for working to stop the spread of COVID-19."

The County of Simcoe, through our Long Term Care and Seniors Services Department, employs more than 200 professional Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses and more than 380 PSWs, in addition to many other vital caregiver roles. These dedicated individuals do an exceptional job delivering care to our residents in the County's long-term care and seniors services facilities and programs.

During the pandemic, the County of Simcoe has been sharing acts of kindness, support and gratitude from our caregivers and residents across the County. If you have a personal message to share with our caregivers, please send along on social media using #StrongerTogether and tag us @countyofsimcoe on Instagram, @simcoecounty on Twitter or “like" @CountyofSimcoe on Facebook.
