County of Simcoe Paramedic Services reimagine 2020 Toy Drive during COVID-19

Midhurst/November 17, 2020 – 2020 marks the 18th year of the County of Simcoe Paramedics Services Annual Toy Drive. Similar to so many other annual events and celebrations during COVID-19, Paramedics have adapted to public health guidelines and are delivering the 2020 Toy Drive through safe measures to continue to support those in need throughout Simcoe County.

Now more then ever, local children and families are struggling, feeling the financial pressure brought on by the pandemic. As the need remains great, County of Simcoe Paramedic Services has reimagined the Toy Drive, and while they will continue to accept donations of new, unwrapped toys at paramedic stations, this year, they are encouraging residents to consider donating virtually by visiting https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/simcoe-county-paramedic-association/. Gift cards with the value denoted can also be dropped off at one of the locations listed below. Physical items will be quarantined and/or disinfected prior to processing, as per infection control recommendations from Public Health.

Over the last 17 years, the Toy Drive has collected 84,265 toys, 37,180 lbs of food and more than $172,250 in monetary and gift card donations for families across Simcoe County.

“During the best of times, the holidays can be exceptionally stressful for families in need," said Warden George Cornell. “Given the challenges that so many of our residents continue to face during this pandemic, we anticipate that the impact of community generosity will be even greater this year. We are grateful to our residents and businesses for your continued support, and thankful to our Paramedics, who have faced COVID-19 head on, and remain committed to volunteering their time to support our communities."

All Toy Drive donations are distributed to local children and families in need by charitable organizations working in partnership with County of Simcoe Paramedic Services. Residents are asked for their continued generosity and support in helping those most in need in our region.

Donations of non-perishable food items and new, unwrapped toys can be made at the County of Simcoe Administration Centre, 1110 Highway 26 in Midhurst between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and at all County of Simcoe Paramedic Stations, where outdoor drop boxes are available.
