Midhurst/ October 6, 2017 – The County of Simcoe is hosting two public information sessions on Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wasaga RecPlex to provide local residents and stakeholders with information on the proposed Wasaga Beach Affordable Housing Development project.
In 2014, County Council approved the County's 10-Year Affordable Housing and Homelessness Prevention Strategy, which contained a preliminary target of 110 affordable housing units for the Town of Wasaga Beach. County staff will provide an overview of the project, along with details about the next steps in the project timeline. Both sessions will be a drop-in, open-house format and will not include a formal presentation.
"Affordable housing is one of the greatest challenges and strongest opportunities facing the County moving forward," said Warden Gerry Marshall. "This project, in partnership with the Town of Wasaga Beach, provides us with the unique opportunity to utilize municipally donated lands to put a big dent in reaching our preliminary target through the creation of 99 new affordable units. At the same time, it enables us to convert part of a municipal works yard into a thriving mixed income community that is designed in an age-friendly manner for individuals, seniors, and families. The new streetscape is designed to blend well with the existing community and offer green space and parks to both the residents and local community."
