Midhurst/ February 27, 2017 – The County of Simcoe is hosting two public information sessions on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Collingwood Public Library to provide local residents and stakeholders with an update on the Collingwood Affordable Housing Redevelopment project.
In 2014, County Council approved the County's 10-Year Affordable Housing and Homelessness Prevention Strategy, which contained a preliminary target of 134 affordable housing units for the Town of Collingwood. County staff will provide an overview of the projects, along with details about the next steps in the project timeline. Both sessions will be a drop-in, open-house format and will not include a formal presentation.
"Affordable housing is one of the greatest challenges and strongest opportunities facing the County moving forward," said Warden Gerry Marshall. "This project, which the Town of Collingwood has actively supported, provides us with the unique opportunity to better utilize an existing property to put a big dent in reaching our preliminary target by turning 30 existing units into 147. At the same time, it enables us to enhance the streetscape and pedestrian safety, while balancing green space more appropriately."
