County of Simcoe’s Trillium Manor to unveil donation

Midhurst/June 13, 2019 – Media are invited to attend a special ceremony on Friday, June 14 at 10:30 a.m. at Trillium Manor in Orillia.

The ceremony is being held to celebrate the donation of a steel dress sculpture from renowned artist Barb Hunt, a Canada Council grants and Visual Arts Newfoundland & Labrador/CARFAC Endurance Award recipient, in honour of her mother, Dorothy Parsons, a resident at Trillium Manor. The sculpture is part of Hunt's “Steel Dress" series, where she explores the social construction of gender by juxtaposing both contradictory and supportive correlations between material, image, and process, in order to present alternative visions of identity.

“My mother was a nurse and she inspired this piece", said Barb Hunt. “She has been a resident since 2010 where has been receiving wonderful care. Everyone in our family is very grateful for the attention and kindness she receives there. I have been visiting Orillia for thirty years and it feels like my second home so I would be delighted to have my work in the collection of Trillium Manor."

“The County is honoured to receive this generous donation, a beautiful and moving piece from Barb Hunt," said Warden George Cornell. “In showcasing “Maternity" at Trillium Manor, the County is celebrating the contributions of our residents to their families and communities, while also recognizing our staff, from nurses to food services to housekeeping and everyone in between, who work to provide the highest quality of care and support to our residents."
