We are very pleased to share with you that after a successful fight against a third outbreak in our last four (4) months, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has declared this recent isolated outbreak at Simcoe Manor officially over.

January 8, 2021 Update
We are pleased to share that our case count remains stable with no new cases. We continue with two positive staff cases and our Tosorontio unit remains in outbreak, with residents on this floor under isolation protocols.
All residents in the home were tested for precautionary measures on Monday and 106 of the 108 resident test results have been returned as negative. The remaining two results were related to two residents who had previously tested positive and their results, as expected, were returned as positive, reflecting this previous infection. Staff were tested Wednesday and we retested Tosorontio residents only again on Thursday.
January 6, 2021 Update
Please note that our case count remains stable with no new case updates to share since our last communications on January 4th. We continue with two positive staff cases and our Tosorontio unit remains in outbreak, with residents on this floor under isolation protocols.
All residents in the home were tested for precautionary measures on Monday and results received to date are all negative. Staff are being tested today and we plan to test Tosorontio residents only again this this week.
January 4, 2021 Update
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (Health Unit) informed the County of one (1) additional positive staff case at Simcoe Manor. This brings total positive cases to two (2) staff.
Both staff members were identified through our weekly testing process at the home on December 30. Both also work full-time on the Tosorontio Unit.
The Tosorontio Unit at Simcoe Manor continues to be in outbreak. All residents on Tosorontio Unit are in isolation, which includes all activities occurring in rooms and further PPE protocols for staff providing care/support. Residents on all other units are in quarantine, with meals still occurring in the dining area where enhanced infection control measures have been implemented.
We are awaiting test results for all residents (tested on Sunday) with routine testing of all staff occurring this week.
Simcoe Village is not placed in outbreak, but any shared amenities and areas are closed.
January 3, 2021 Update
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health (Health Unit) Unit informed us of 1 positive staff case at Simcoe Manor. The individual is asymptomatic and was identified through our weekly testing process at the home on December 30. This person works full time on Tosorontio Unit with their last shift January 1st.
Due to this one case, the Health Unit is placing Tosorontio Unit at Simcoe Manor in outbreak. All residents will be placed in quarantine (activities will occur in their rooms) and residents on the Tosorontio Unit will be placed in isolation, which includes further PPE protocols for staff providing care/support – please see details and instructions below.
Simcoe Village will not be placed in outbreak, but any shared amenities and areas are closed.
We're optimistic that this case was caught early and our management team is immediately deploying resources and expertise to support staff in our response.
- Staff are being strictly cohorted to the Tosorontio Unit and are not to move to any other unit
- All admissions for the full facility are on hold at this time
- Routine mass staff testing is scheduled for Wednesday, January 6th
- All residents on Tosorontio Unit are being tested immediately
