Minesing/June 7, 2017 – In celebration of Canada's Sesquicentennial, the Simcoe County Museum is pleased to announce our latest and uniquely innovative exhibition: Donald A. Stuart / Designer / Craftsman / 50 Years of Creative Excellence.
The exhibition features a cross-section of 50 years of artistic works, gathered together for the first time, by one of Canada's and Simcoe County's most acclaimed craftsmen, Donald A. Stuart. This retrospective showcases work from across the last five decades. The earliest piece is a sterling silver demitasse coffee service from 1967 which won two major awards in the Canadian Guild of Crafts exhibition of that year – Best Design and Best Hollowware. Also included are many other national and international award winning pieces.
In time for the formal opening on June 20th, the Homage Collection, which includes 40 necklaces inspired by outstanding Canadian women and currently on tour at the Yukon Arts Centre Art Gallery in Whitehorse, will be added to the exhibition. Homage celebrates contributions to Canada by women from all walks of life, across the centuries, from coast to coast.
Mr. Stuart was born in Toronto, graduated from The Ontario College of Art and is a long term resident of Simcoe County (Midhurst). Mr. Stuart is a recipient of both the Order of Ontario and the Order of Canada.
