County helps connect newcomers through Community Connections fairs


Midhurst/April 4, 2018 – County of Simcoe, with funding from the Government of Ontario and administered by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, is hosting three Community Connections fairs in Barrie, New Tecumseth (Alliston), and Bradford West Gwillimbury this spring to help connect immigrant residents with community supports and services. 

The fairs will focus on connecting newcomers with Employment Ontario agencies which assist immigrants in finding work in local communities and support area businesses to attract skilled labour. The events will also provide information about various community services including libraries, municipal programs, English language training, settlement supports, and other human and social resources. 

Admission is free of charge and the fairs are being held in the following communities:

Simcoe County's population is growing and diversifying. In 2016, Statistics Canada reported 61,605 foreign born residents living in Simcoe County, representing approximately 13 per cent of the regional population (480,000). Individuals reporting a non-official mother tongue increased by more than 24 per cent since 2011.

County of Simcoe is composed of sixteen member municipalities and provides crucial public services to County residents in addition to providing paramedic and social services to the separated cities of Barrie and Orillia. Visit our website at
