UPDATED: August 30, 2023
The County is currently constructing a single-lane roundabout at the intersection of County Roads 56 and 21. There will also be improvements made to storm water drainage, and lighting will be installed. These improvements will enhance public safety through grade changes to improve sightlines at the intersection. The reconstruction will also improve traffic flow in the area.
The County has awarded the construction tender and expects construction to begin on July 31, 2023. The reconstruction work will continue through to November 30, 2023, and from May 1 to June 01, 2024. We would like to thank the public in advance for their patience and understanding as we work to make these necessary improvements in Essa Township.
During road reconstruction operations, traffic speed will be reduced to 60 km/h through the work zone.
During various phases of the project, it will be necessary to close portions of County Road 56. Detour routes will be set up and warning signs will be installed to warn motorists of the traffic disruptions.
Additional correspondence and detour maps have been distributed to advise of the exact dates for road closures. Click here to read our latest newsletter.
Exposed gravel driving surfaces may be encountered periodically during construction.
Please be safe, follow signage instructions and speed limits, and use caution when driving through the construction zone.
Adapting to Roundabouts
The County is invested in multiple roundabout projects, including on County Road 93 (Vindin Street) and County Road 53 (Wilson Drive). Roundabouts have been selected in these instances due to their many proven benefits, including safety and environmental advantages. For more information on how to navigate roundabouts, visit our
Roundabouts page or download our Roundabout Brochure.
