About the project
The County of Simcoe is constructing a roundabout at the intersection of County Road 53 (Wilson Drive) and Carson Road/Seadon Road, in the Township of Springwater.
The project commenced in 2018 and is following a Municipal Class A+ Environmental Assessment, pre-approved project. Consideration was given to both traffic signal and roundabout options. County Road 53 will be widened to provide two lanes approaching the roundabout from the north and south approaches. Carson Road will have two westbound lanes and one eastbound lane. Seadon Road will have one eastbound lane and one westbound lane. The roundabout will have two circulatory lanes on all legs except on the south leg where it has only one lane.
Timelines
- A flashing beacon was installed at the intersection in 2020 as an interim measure.
- Property acquisitions for the roundabout and road widening were completed by the County in 2021.
- Construction of the CR 53 / Seadon / Carson Roundabout has commenced.
- Construction is anticipated to be substantially performed by November 30, 2023.
Traffic Impacts
In August 2023, sections of Wilson Road were temporarily closed to through traffic to facilitate construction of the roundabout. Signed detour routes were erected for the duration of the road closure.
A full closure of Carson and Seadon Roads began in September – Detour routes have been posted. The closure was scheduled to end on October 6, however, the end date has been extended to

Temporarily closing Carson Road and Seadon Road at County Road 53 will result in a shorter construction schedule, reduced construction cost, reduced traffic impact, safer work environment for the contractor and promote increased quality of workmanship. If a temporary closure were not implemented, construction of the roundabout would take two construction seasons rather than one.
