The Simcoe County Archives hold a number of Fire Insurance Plans (FIPs) for municipalities located in the County. FIPs are large format urban maps originally commissioned by insurance companies. They were used to assess different sites and buildings for risk of fire and to establish insurance rates. The plans include information such as what a structure is made of (brick or wood) and also identify different types of residential dwellings and commercial buildings. For researchers, FIPs offer a snapshot of what a commercial district looked like at the time of the plans creation.
This page includes a list of FIPs for different municipalities located within Simcoe County. They are listed alphabetically and organized chronologically. Some FIPs are available for review online.
