About Transportation and Engineering


The Transportation & Engineering Department delivers the operational, maintenance, and construction services required for the County’s road and bridge system for the safe and efficient operation for the public, both at present and in the future.  This is accomplished through the daily maintenance activities, an aggressive program of rehabilitation, and reconstruction of the road and bridge infrastructure, and through the application of effective traffic operation and planning principles.  The Department’s goal is to ensure an acceptable level of service is maintained at all times.

The department also provides engineering input for local and County planning issues related to transportation planning.

The department currently manages an infrastructure of over 900 kilometres of road, 120 bridges, 60 oversized culverts, and 60​ signalized intersections.

Transportation Construction


The transportation construction department is responsible for the operation and construction of the County transportation and bridge network. The departments objective is to provide transportation infrastructure which is maintained and constructed to applicable standards, ensuring safe road conditions through efficient cost effective maintenance operations and a long term planned program of road and bridge reconstruction and rehabilitation.

Transportation Maintenance and Operations


The transportation maintenance department is responsible for the summer and winter maintenance of the county road system with operations based out of 6 works garages located throughout the County.  This includes pavement repairs and patching, shoulder grading and resurfacing, road sweeping, curb and gutter repair and snow removal.

Traffic Engineering


The Traffic Engineering Section is responsible for numerous traffic operational issues.  These traffic and safety studies are designed to improve safety and efficiency of the County Road System.
