Simcoe County Flu Assessment Centre to Close

Due to a decrease in demand, the Royal Victoria Hospital will be closing the Simcoe County Flu Assessment Centre as of Monday, November 30, 2009.

What is the Emergency Planning Department?

Emergency Planning is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining emergency programs. These plans are designed to prevent and mitigate major emergencies within our community. The plans also address the response to and recovery from potentially devasting effects of disasters. Emergency Planning coordinates with numerous agencies to ensure the safety of our communities.

What is the SMHSEPC?

The Simcoe Muskoka Health Sector Emergency Planning Committee (SMHSEPC)prepares planned and coordinated responses to health related emergencies. It advises and assists in the development of health sector plans and also facilitates coordination between health care organizations and agencies. The SMHSEPC works in partnership with the County of Simcoe, the District of Muskoka, and the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.

 


Operation Water Blast

The County of Simcoe recently participated Operation Water Blast, a tactical emergency exercise which simulated an explosion and hazardous chemical release in the town of Alliston.

The County Emergency Control Group worked with the following municipalities, emergency services, and groups to provide a coordinated response to the event:

  • Town of New Tecumseth
  • Township of Essa
  • Ontario Provincial Police
  • County of Simcoe Paramedic Services
  • Stevenson Memorial Hospital
  • Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit
  • Canadian Forces Base Borden Fire Department
  • Simcoe County Ham Radio Emergency Communications
