Defibrillator Program (PAD)

Public Access DefibrillationThe County of Simcoe Paramedic Services Public Access Defibrillator (PAD) Program was launched in 2005 and since that time has coordinated the placement of over 700 Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s).  Public Access Defibrillators (PAD's) can now be found in most Public, Catholic and participating French schools throughout Simcoe County.  PAD's are also prominently located in most arenas, community centres, and sports facilities, as well as most township, municipal and city buildings.  Many other public places and private businesses also have PAD's available in their facilities.

To date the County of Simcoe PAD program has had twenty saves within Simcoe County.  These saves are attributed to the quick administration of CPR and AED use by community members.  To view a video on the importance of recognizing the signs of cardiac arrest and commencing CPR click here.

In 2020 the Ontario Government passed the Defibrillator Registration and Public Access Act, which requires the owners of PAD’s located in public buildings to adhere to certain requirements.  These specifications require that owners have their PAD(s) registered with their local Ambulance Communications Centre, strategically placed and clearly signed, and maintained/monitored to ensure the PAD(s) remain ready to use in the event of a cardiac arrest.  To encourage the likelihood of the PAD(s) being used, and to increase the quality of CPR performed in response to a cardiac emergency, this Act also promotes CPR/AED training.  With the support of the CSPS PAD Program, its members are currently in good standing with this new Act.  Please click the link below to see the details of the Act.
