County present emergency preparedness kit to winning student

Emergency Management Co-ordinator Rob Heffernan presented Grade 5 student Drayson Cox, winner of the STEP program emergency preparedness kit.

During Emergency Preparedness week in May, the County's Emergency Management Department launched the STEP STudent Emergency Preparedness program, a free educational program for Grade 5 students in Simcoe County.

Presented by Emergency Management staff, and on numerous occasions, representatives from local fire services, STEP has been delivered to over 600 students across the County.  STEP covers basic information on emergency preparedness including what types of emergencies to prepare for in Simcoe County, how to create a family emergency plan and what to include in an emergency kit.  Students are given the opportunity to answer a skill-testing question and enter a draw for a Canadian Red Cross 72-Hour disaster kit.
