Parent Support Groups

There are many local, provincial and national Associations as well as a number of local parent support groups that are valuable resources for families.  If you are interested in joining a local parent support group or would like more information, please speak to a member of your Early Intervention team.

Public Funding and Subsidies Available to Families

There are a variety of public and private funding sources for families in Simcoe County. The following are just some that may be available to you. For more options, we recommend that you speak with a member of your Early Intervention team.

Childcare Fee Subsidy

County of Simcoe

The County of Simcoe’s Children and Community Services Department provides Child Care Fee Subsidy to assist families with the cost of licensed child care. Parents must reside in the County of Simcoe or the Cities of Barrie and Orillia. Parents/Guardians must be working, attending school, fulfilling a participation agreement with Ontario Works, or in need of developmental programming for a child with special needs or to support exceptional needs where health, safety, wellbeing of a family member is a significant risk. Child Care Fee Subsidy

Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities (ACSD)

Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services

Provides financial assistance to help some families meet the extra costs resulting from a disability. Eligibility is based on total family income, total allowable expenses, as well as the number and ages of children in the family.

Special Service's At Home (SSAH)

Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services

Families caring for their children at home who have a developmental or physical disability, may be eligible for Special Services At Home funding. This funding allows for developmental programming and/or parent relief. Funding is not meant to duplicate services available in the community and is based on the child's needs.

Easter Seal's Incontinence Grant

The program is for children and youth between the ages of 3 to 18 years of age with a chronic disability resulting in irreversible incontinence lasting longer than six months. Some children under the age of three (3) may be eligible for funding depending on their diagnosis (for example, Spina Bifida). The grant is a contribution to the cost of supplies and may not cover all costs.

The application must be completed and signed by a medical physician licensed to practice in Ontario. The child must be a resident of Ontario and hold a valid Ontario health card.

Incontinence Supplies Grant Program

March of Dimes Canada

This Program provides funding for basic home and/or vehicle modifications, and is intended to assist permanent Ontario residents with a substantial impairment expected to last one year or more, with their disability management. By reducing or elimination life safety risks these modifications enable children and adults with mobility restrictions to:

  • Ensure living in their homes
  • Avoid job loss
  • Participate in their communities

Respite Enhancement Funding

Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services

Provides support to families caring for a child at home with complex medical issues who is dependent on a technological device for survival. This funding assists families to purchase respite services. Families can contact the NSM LHIN Children's Services to determine whether their child's care needs meet the eligibility criteria.
