County marks National Multiculturalism Day

Midhurst/June 23, 2017 – The County of Simcoe Local Immigration Partnership invites residents and media to celebrate National Multiculturalism Day on June 27, 2017. This year's event incorporates a Canada 150 theme and features an educational exhibit highlighting Simcoe County's unique multicultural history.

The exhibit will be held in the County of Simcoe Administration Centre Atrium area from 12 to 4 p.m. on June 27. A video highlighting the successful #ITSTARTS Pledge campaign run by the County throughout the month of June will be included in the exhibit. To-date, the County has distributed more than 8,000 Pledge cards and received extraordinary response from residents and partners through social media. Visit www.immigration.simcoe.ca/itstarts to learn more.

"Simcoe County is truly becoming a popular destination for new Canadians, with more than 50,000 newcomers living in Simcoe County from a variety of ethnic backgrounds," said Warden Gerry Marshall. "The success of the Pledge campaign and the support and participation we've received demonstrates just how welcoming and diverse our communities are becoming. Join us to celebrate National Multiculturalism Day."

The Simcoe County Local Immigration Partnership was established in 2011 and is funded by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada. The Partnership Council is comprised of numerous community leaders, including representatives from education, policing, libraries, economic development, health, housing family counselling and supports, employment services, settlement services, government, and the United Way of Greater Simcoe County.
