County of Simcoe Library Co-operative members receive Minister’s Award for Innovation

Midhurst/ February 3, 2015 – Members of the County of Simcoe Library Co-operative recently received the Minister's Award for Innovation from the Honourable Michael Coteau, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, during the Ontario Public Library Service Awards. Minister Coteau recognized the Library Co-operative members for their innovative Simcoe County Libraries for Accessibility project, which included the website redesign of 10 member libraries to meet Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) standards and provides improved integration with their online catalogues, electronic databases and e-book collections.

The Minister's Award for Innovation recognizes successful new approaches that demonstrate a positive impact in a community and are of continued value to public libraries.

"I would like to thank Minister Coteau for recognizing our Simcoe County Libraries for Accessibility project and congratulate our staff members for working so hard to ensure its success," said Warden Gerry Marshall. "The project offers an enriched library-user experience for many of our member municipalities and demonstrates our commitment to enhancing accessible services for all our residents."

The Simcoe County Libraries for Accessibility project is a responsible answer to the provision of equitable access, enhanced online services and excellent customer service through the utilization of a user-friendly platform. The project also works to achieve the partner libraries' goal of providing our residents with "one place to look" for their library needs. The library partners included in the project are: Township of Clearview, Town of Collingwood, Township of Essa, Town of New Tecumseth, Town of Penetanguishene, Township of Ramara, Township of Severn (Coldwater), Simcoe County Library Co-operative, Township of Springwater, Township of Tay, and Town of Wasaga Beach.
