Discrimination

The inequitable treatment of a person or group of people based on race/ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, sex, ability, age, ethnicity, socio-economic status, language, faith, or other parts of one's social identity. Discrimination may be intentional or unintentional and may occur on individual or institutional levels.

  • Example: Turning down a qualified candidate for a job position due to 'lack of Canadian experience', or giving preference to resumes with English-sounding names.
