Supporting Simcoe County's economy

Simcoe County is bustling with economic growth, innovation and labour opportunities. From tourism, to agriculture, to technology and manufacturing industries, we have so much to offer residents, business owners and future investors.

Through our economic development strategy, County Council has made it a priority to support projects and opportunities that bring national and international business and employment opportunities to our region.

Tourism has been one area where we have made great strides, including increased support of local festivals, events and fairs that bring visitors and business to our communities. We were honoured to be the host County of the 2014 International Plowing Match and Rural Expo. The event garnered national attention and I’m proud that the County of Simcoe provided both financial and in-kind support to such an important agricultural showcase.

The arts and culture sector is another area that the County has focused on. In January 2014, the County completed a Cultural Study that comprised a number of stakeholder consultations. Feedback and recommendations were analyzed and I’m pleased that County Council has recently approved the maximum level of support recommended by staff, reaffirming the County’s commitment to growing the cultural sector throughout Simcoe County.

Other exciting economic development news from the region is the County’s recent partnership with the City of Barrie and the Township of Oro-Medonte to enter into an agreement to become co-owner of the Lake Simcoe Regional Airport Inc. (LSRA). This is a true boost to our economy and we hope to build on this partnership to benefit all our residents and businesses throughout the region.

From food and agriculture, to our manufacturing sectors, to investments in post-secondary education, we have so many economic development successes to celebrate. For information about our many economic development programs and initiatives, visit edo.simcoe.ca.
